A Study on the Effects of Negative Symptoms on the Psychological Impairments in Schizophrenia


Abstract
This study was attepted to identify the correlation between negative symptoms and psychological impairments, and how to effect of negative symptoms on the psychological impairments. 56 schizophrenic patients on Screening Schedule were applied Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms and Psychological Impairment Rating Schedule, and tried Pearson¢¥s correlation and significance test based on the scores of each item.
The results were summarised as follows :
1. In the negative symptoms, affective flattening or blunting vs psychic tempo ¡¤ communication with facial expression . conversation skills, alogia vs psychic tempo ¡¤ communication with facial expression ¡¤ conversation skills, avolition-apathy vs psychic tempo . communication with facial expression ¡¤ conversation skills ¡¤ communication with body language ¡¤ affective display, anhedonia-asociality vs psychic tempo . communication with facial expression ¡¤ conversation skills, attentional impairment vs psychic tempo ¡¤ communication with facial expression ¡¤ conversation skills were significant at the level of p<0.001.
2. In the negative symptoms, affective flattening or blunting vs fatigue ¡¤ cooperaration, alogia vs attention withdrawal ¡¤ fatigue ¡¤ affect display, avolition-apathy vs fatigue ¡¤ self-expression, attentional impairment vs attention withdrawal communication with facial expression affect display ¡¤ cooperation were significant at the level of P<0.005.
3. In general, all the negative symptoms vs all the psychological impairments were significant at the level of P<0.001.
